About Tuirenn ‘Kit’ Hurstfield

Hello, I’m Tuirenn ‘Kit’ Hurstfield. My name is a very old Irish name. It rhymes with Kieran. Many people worry about saying my name incorrectly, so I tend to use Kit as my professional name in celebrancy.

I am an avid lover of nature, books & real music • a proud Ravenclaw • dog dad to Frodo, my beautiful Romanian rescue • and I follow a Druidic path • 🏳️‍🌈

A professional and skilled writer, telling stories is my passion. Helping you tell your story in the way that you want them to be told is why I am here…

A Little About Me…

I am a creative individual, first and foremost. A human being who is excited by hearing, reflecting on and telling the stories of others.

My initial training and career was in theatre (you can read more about my work in theatre here). I trained as an actor and spent many years performing, directing and writing plays for the stage. I then moved into education, teaching others how to do what I had done for so long.

Becoming an Independent Celebrant

I gained both of the NOCN diplomas in Celebrancy for Couples & Naming, and also for Funeral Celebrancy. These are the highest level nationally recognised qualifications for our industry in the UK – meaning I am fully accredited, with Civil Ceremonies Ltd.

Knowing I wanted to change my career trajectory away from mainstream education, I found a real “calling” towards telling other people’s stories (and not just theatrically).

The world of celebrancy is a place where I can engage with real people and serve honourably in providing a service where I support them in their key milestones of life. Having attended so many funerals and weddings and seeing how impersonal and dry (and often filled with mistakes) these ceremonies could be, I am driven by the want to create something unique and special for people.

Telling  and/or re-telling human stories excites me. To me celebrancy and my career in theatre go specially hand-in-hand. They seem on the surface to be entirely independent of each other – but the reality is that they both are all about telling stories. Finding the truth of people and humanity and exploring them, articulating them, shaping them and finding a pathway into the special lives of others (real-life and fictional).

For Life’s Journey

I returned to my hometown of Macclesfield, Cheshire in 2017, where I now work as a fully qualified Independent Celebrant. I founded For Life’s Journey as a business ensuring quality and 100% bespoke ceremonies could be provided for people around Cheshire, Manchester and North Staffordshire. That said, I have conducted a number of my services much further afield across the whole of the country.
