The separation of a close relationship or divorce are painful transitions for most people who experience them – the two individuals who were in relationship and also the children, family and friends that were a part of the marriage or relationship and its breakdown. It is a time of great upheaval, uncertainty, challenges and also new horizons and possibilities.
A well crafted and considered ceremony can make a positive and lasting difference to all those participating – whether it is a meeting of just the couple and a witness or a large gathering.
It can offer valuable healing, closure, clarity and vision. Taking the time and creating a sacred space where the relationship can be honoured for all the gifts the relationship brought, including the challenges, is a powerful acknowledgement that the separation or divorce is not a sign of failure, it was an inevitable consequence of change and circumstances. It can assist both parties to feel a sense of closure and moving forward.
The ceremony process does not abandon the past, but instead reclaims it. It is designed to empower you (and the other party if they are present) and bring about new strength and courage, welcoming a new day with renewed commitments for growth and fulfilment. Within the ceremony, the following elements may be used: prose, poetry, music, and symbols that are chosen as important and meaningful.
By using an Independent Celebrant, you can celebrate what was important, and what is important now. You can find the best way of saying goodbye to what has ended, and begin the journey to your new life.
By creating a unique ceremony incorporating elements that are special to you both, For Life’s Journey and Tuirenn Hurstfield will help ensure your Divorce & Separation Ceremony is a truly personal and meaningful event which you can share with friends and family if so desired.
As this ceremony is purely symbolic there are no legalities or paperwork involved: you can hold it wherever you like and include whatever readings, poems, hymns, music or rituals that you find meaningful.
First you need to check the details of the Divorce & Separation Ceremony to see if you’d like to book us for before you get in touch. There are more details on these opposite.
When you first meet Tuirenn, you’ll just spend some time getting to know each other so he can find out more about you, your relationship, and your wishes for your ceremony. You may already have lots of ideas, and that’s totally fine – we can work together to make sure it feels just right.
Once you’ve confirmed the booking, Tuirenn will get started on writing your ceremony straight away. With his experience he can make suggestions, and together you’ll create something that feels right for you. This will possibly include discussing reading options with family and friends you have chosen to take part.
As soon as possible before your date we’ll send you a script for the ceremony. You will have lots of input and your feedback is welcome. We’ll work together as much as you like until you’re 100% happy with the result.
On the day Tuirenn will conduct your ceremony as planned, delivering a personal and releasing service for you and any family or friends you have involved. Afterwards you’ll get a beautifully bound copy of the ceremony script to reflect on as you reclaim your life.
